KEEN
In 1999 Martin Keen invented his first sandal, this went on to become known as the Newport Sandal. Production of their footwear actually began in 2003, after Keen the brand was founded in in the same year by Martin Keen and Rory Fuerst with its headquarters in Alameda, California. Initially, and still with its focus on, their footwear was favoured by outdoor pursuits enthusiasts, with particular interest paid to sea and river sports. The Keen Newport Sandal soon became a fixture for anyone interested in bit just outdoor pursuits but also anyone interest in comfortable, well made and protective footwear for hot or wet days spent on your feet. Their range expanded, as you would expect and included specialist footwear for a variety of pursuits and activities including safety footwear.
Having moved their headquarters to Portland, Oregon, Keen developed their own factory in the same city to produce a range their made with imported elements. This has been a key element of Keen throughout their existence, they strive to make goods that are not only good for those who buy them and the function they serve but also for the people who make them. They actively check that all points in their production are as ethical as possible both in materials and for the people involved.
